  • In 1991 KKI Warsi was established as WARSI (Warung Informasi Konservasi) Foundation by 12 non-government organizations in four provinces, that is West Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu and South Sumatra.  KKI WARSI has formulated a mission for the promotion, development and strengthening of the basic principles of local community conservation and development of fair, equal, participatory, transparent, and sustainable management of natural resources. Warsi developed Indonesia’s first community REDD+ project in 2013 with guidance from Community Forestry International, the Bujang Raba Community PES project. It has been certified by Plan Vivo. WARSI currently assists several dozen community forestry groups in the Bukit Barisan Mountains of Sumatra.

  • The Mawphlang Welfare Society was founded in 2011 as a federation of 10 tribal kingdoms, with over 80 villages to protect and restore the forests of the Umiam River Watershed in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, India. With the support of Community Forestry International, the Mawphlang Welfare Society mobilized the indigenous Khasi communities to design India’s first community REDD+ project. The project was certified under the Plan Vivo standard and has successfully stabilized and restored watershed forests generating 355,000 tCO2 credits since 2012.
